Our Flora’s Legacy Chardonnay is a limited-production, one-of-kind wine made in honor of Flora Komes, our mother, grandmother, and the woman who inspired the founding of Flora Springs Winery. Every year we involve the whole family in the creation of this wine, selecting the finest barrels of Chardonnay in the cellar and gradually narrowing it down to a blend of the few barrels we like best.

The 2015 vintage is sourced primarily from our estate-owned vineyard in the Carneros appellation blended with a small amount of Chardonnay from our Crossroads Vineyard in Oakville. We fermented the wine in three types of vessels – stainless steel, concrete tanks and French oak barrels – and aged it for seven months in a combination of concrete and French oak. This is a generously structured Chardonnay with distinct notes of red Anjou pear, ripe peach and honeydew melon with a hint of lemon zest. The palate is rich and creamy – a product of twice weekly lees stirring - and the skillful use of oak shows up in notes of coconut and spice. Hints of caramel and honey linger on a long finish that melts in the mouth.

On the Vine

The 2015 vintage in Napa Valley will be remembered for high quality but low yields. The growing season began with warm temperatures in late winter and early spring resulting in an early bud break. In May, colder temperatures during bloom caused fruit set to be uneven, yielding a much smaller crop compared to earlier vintages. Winemakers and vineyard managers worked closely together as the season progressed to ensure grapes ripened uniformly. The harvest, which was in full swing by mid-August, was one of the earliest on record in Napa Valley, and most vintners completed picking by mid-October. Although the continuing drought was a concern around California, Napa Valley received 75% of its annual rainfall average in 2015 making it less worrisome for Napa vintners.

92 points, The Wine Advocate
"The fine 2015 Chardonnay Flora's Legacy from Flora Springs displays good, crisp acidity and some honeysuckle, white peach and tropical fruit. The wine is medium to full-bodied, has great acidity, and seems to hold the potential to age for 5-7 years, possibly longer."
93 points, James Suckling
"Lots of dried pineapple and peach aromas follow through to a full body, tight and structured wine."
