Flora Springs has the distinction of being home to one of Napa Valley’s original "ghost wineries" – wineries built between 1860 and 1900 but abandoned in the early 20th century due to vine disease, the Great Depression, and Prohibition. Today, some ghost wineries still exist as ruins, but others, such as Flora Springs, have been renovated and restored to their former glory. Each year we bottle small amounts of estate-grown wines in honor of this illustrious history.

We pay tribute to traditional Day of the Dead artwork with this hand-etched and painted bottle art that glows in the dark! This one-of-a-kind wine is packaged with our infamous Coffin Box. This exclusive handmade box is only available as part of this set.

This darkly saturated plum-colored Merlot from Rutherford offers a black currant and raspberry-scented nose and a palate dominated by rich black cherry fruit, spicy oak, toasty vanilla and cedary smoke. The wine has a wonderful richness and a full fleshy texture, yet the polished tannins and balancing acidity keep it from going over the top. This is a full-bodied, seamlessly styled Merlot that will drink well for the next 10-15 years.

On the Vine

In spite of a year that saw the continuation of California’s drought in Napa Valley, vintners in the region celebrated another vintage for the record books in 2014. Heavy rains in late February and early March gave a much-needed drink of water to vines as they emerged from dormancy, and a warm, relatively frost-free spring allowed bud break, flowering and fruit set to proceed without interruption. Continued warm, dry weather throughout the summer brought the grapes to perfect ripeness in a harvest that was relatively early and also bountiful. 2014 was the third great vintage year in a row for Napa Valley, with vintners using phrases such as "excellent quality," "depth of flavor" and "exciting concentration" to describe the forthcoming wines.
