Our etched and hand-painted Holiday Bottles are one of Flora Springs most treasured traditions, a way for us to give our wine club members exclusive access to rare wines in festive, one-of-a-kind bottlings.

We work year-round we come up with new artful designs, many of them inspired by the holiday celebrations we enjoy in our own home. This year, for our limited-edition magnum, Nat Komes was again drawn to the story of The Nutcracker, remembering how his grandmother and our matriarch, Flora Komes, loved to display her extensive Nutcracker collection each holiday season. The Mouse King, who was of course the Nutcracker’s evil nemesis, is meticulously etched and hand painted onto glass for this eye-popping bottle. Whether it adorns your holiday table or you give it as a gift, this design is sure to inspire further consideration of this classic tale of good and evil.

The wine is a Cabernet Sauvignon from the 2015 vintage, specifically held aside for this holiday bottle and now aged to perfection. It combines fruit from our estate vineyards in St. Helena, Rutherford and St. Helena. Warm and richly satisfying, this Cabernet fills the mouth with flavors of blackberry preserves, black cherry, vanilla, brown butter, caramel and a hint of fennel. With soft tannins and a loose knit structure, the wine is drinking beautifully now yet a tangible streak of pleasant acidity promises ageability for a decade or more.

Twice the size of a standard wine bottle at 1.5 liters, magnums are ideal for entertaining, for extended aging -  and also make stunning gifts.

On the Vine

The 2015 vintage in Napa Valley will be remembered for high quality but low yields. The growing season began with warm temperatures in late winter and early spring resulting in an early bud break. In May, colder temperatures during bloom caused fruit set to be uneven, yielding a much smaller crop compared to earlier vintages. The harvest, which was in full swing by mid-August, was one of the earliest on record in Napa Valley, and most vintners completed picking by mid-October.
